This resource is designed specifically to support survivors of domestic violence in locating safe housing. Here you will find information about various safe housing options and the following features:

  • A comprehensive housing guide for survivors in DC seeking emergency, transitional and permanent supportive housing. This guide details eligibility requirements, the admission process and the physical accessibility of housing programs. Included in the guide are select additional safe housing options in Maryland and Virginia.

Housing Support for Advocates
DASH provides support for domestic violence and homeless advocates seeking safe housing options for survivors in the following ways:

  • Coordinating quarterly advocate summits and conference calls to clarify housing policy and provide domestic violence information and resources.

  • Facilitating advocate trainings, in collaboration with the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the National Law Center for Homelessness and Poverty,
    on local and federal housing laws that benefit domestic violence victims.

  • Troubleshooting challenging housing cases with advocates to generate safe housing options for their clients.

Housing Support for Survivors
at the Housing Resource Center

DASH's Housing Resource Center at the Lighthouse Center for Healing in Ft. Totten is open for survivors to obtain housing counseling and support. Current affordable housing listings, information about housing programs and computers with internet access are available for conducting individual housing searches. Center staff is also on hand to assist survivors in preparing applications for transitional and permanent housing programs and with finding other social service resources. Housing Protections for Domestic Violence Survivors
Did you know that DC housing and federal law provides protections for domestic violence survivors? DASH, the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty are conducting trainings for advocates and landlords explaining these housing rights for domestic violence survivors. We also developed this housing rights brochure for survivors in DC.
